Mask wearing has become the new normal, and that often means wearing one when you’re out running to stay safe and be responsible. Running with a mask can be a little trickier if you’re not accustomed to it. The following tips may help make things easier for you.
First, you’ll need to find the right mask as breathing may become a little harder. You want to find something that won’t move around or rub during an intense run while offering breathability and preventing chafing. A mask that stays put means you won’t have to suddenly stop and lose your momentum because it’s falling off.
If you’ve walked around with a mask during the summer, you’ve likely noticed that it can get warm. This will definitely be the case as you’re running so you want to make sure that you double up on remaining hydrated. On that note, you may also wish to consider taking a few breaks or at least slowing down here and there to walk when it feels necessary.
Lastly, adjust your running goals accordingly. With the extra water or walking breaks, you may need to tweak your routine.
